"I’ve read your ‘How to Do Everything with PPT 2007’ book and found it very informative. Most definitely worth the price; in fact, several times over.   And I say that having purchased and read most other PPT 2007 books available on Amazon." -Nathan Schor

This book was a HUGE help for me while learning PowerPoint 2007. It was remarkably clearly written and easy to follow. While I'm not a big fan of all the changes to the PowerPoint (and the Office suite generally), it's great to have a well-written guidebook for coping with the increased complexity! -Jon Boutelle, CTO, SlideShare

"I find your book the best of the three I have bought to learn PowerPoint."-Robert Maddin

Essential Presentations by Adrien OliverPresentationEssentials: 39 Ideas on Content, Design and Delivery by Adrien Oliver

This beautifully designed book contains short essays on how to create presentations that really work. These ideas, or principles, will help you avoid the Death by PowerPoint trap. The book also makes a great gift for someone who is still using text-based slides.

Some of the topics included:

  • If a situation doesn’t need a presentation, don’t make one
  • Short doesn’t mean unimportant
  • Create a storyline with the 1-3-1 method (”Candywrapper” method)
  • Design is more than just the slides
  • Use interactivity to include your audience in the presentation
  • Close the feedback loop
  • The one page handout

Each idea is short and sweet. You won’t find technical details on how to use PowerPoint. But you will find a wide range of valuable concepts.

- Chaya Green, TM Teacher

"I wrote a PPT last week using the "Tell'n'ShowSM idea. Worked beautifully. Not surprisingly I ended up with graphically oriented, rather than word oriented, slides. I also wrote the presentation using Word and then figured what visual aids would emphasize something being said. Then brought it all over to PPT. Just the opposite of what I used to do, which was start by opening PPT, pull up the standard bullet point slide and start writing. Thanks for the help!" -Bob Stein

Targus wireless remote/laser pointer

Targus wireless remote/laser pointerI use this inexpensive remote because it's very simple. It's small so your audience will hardly notice it; it fits easily in the palm of your hand. You just plug the USB adapter into your laptop and it works. Click the right button to go to the next slide. Click the left button to go backward. Click the bottom button to black out and re-view a slide. It's that easy.

It does have some minor disadvantages:

  • The On/Off switch on the right side is very hard to see. I lent it to my husband; he and a computer-savvy colleague thought it was broken because they couldn't find the switch!
  • The top button is supposed to allow you to switch to other applications. I haven't figured out how to control it well enough to use it.
  • The buttons make a slight clicking sound; I'd prefer them to be silent
