A subscriber ask me how she could create a printed handout that contains only some of the slides in the presentation. She wanted to create a handout with 3 slides per page. Here are the steps:

For PowerPoint 2010

  1. Choose File> Print
  2. In the Settings area, the first item will say Print All Slides. Click the down arrow and choose Custom Range.
  3. A box will appear, labeled “Slides.” Enter the slides that you want to print. For example, 1-3, 4, 6, 7-9.
  4. The second item will say Full Page Slides. Click the down arrow and choose 3 Slides, under Handouts.
  5. Click Print.

For PowerPoint 2003 & 2007

  1. Choose File/Application button> Print. The Print dialog box opens.
  2. In the Print Range section, choose Slides. Enter the slides that you want to print. For example, 1-3, 4, 6, 7-9.
  3. Under the Print What label, choose Handouts from the drop-down list.
  4. In the Handouts section, next to the Slides Per Page label, choose the number of slides that you want, in this case, 3.
  5. Click OK.

Ellen, I have a question on printing handouts. I often provide clients with handouts, with more than one slide on a handout, on which I have inserted page numbers on the individual slides. There is a confusion, since the page numbers on the individual slides are different from the slide numbers on the handouts. For example: if you print 3 slides on a page, the slides will be numbered 1,2, & 3, while the handout page number will be one. Then on handout page 2 the slides will be 4,5, & 6. I have found an “edit Header & Footer”… Read more »

Take the page number placeholder off the handout master – it worked for me.
