GCF Learn Free is a website that offers free tutorials, both in text and video format. People often ask me where they can learn PowerPoint from scratch, and this is a good place to start for the basics. Go to the Computer Training page, choose PowerPoint, and choose the version you want. They have tutorials from 2000 through 2007 (PC only).
If you try these, let me know what you think. Do you know of other free PowerPoint tutorials?
They’re good basic tutorials, although I think they would have benefited from using video to demonstrate the stages. And I slightly mistrust a source that encourages presenters to ‘enhance your presentation with clip art’!
m62.net has a range of free PowerPoint tutorials for different purposes, and for different versions of PowerPoint. Some are simple basics, and some are more advanced, demonstrating the new features of PowerPoint 2010. They can be found here:

Let me know what you think – feedback is gratefully received!
Jessica, I looked at a couple of them and I think they’re excellent. And a good variety of specific PowerPoint features and more general design principles. Thanks for sharing them.
You’re right that the source I gave is very basic and the design advice isn’t useful, but I’ve discovered that there are people who are starting out from scratch and just need some place to start.
Thanks for spreading the news about GCFLearnFree.org. We have added tutorials for PowerPoint 2010 and I also like to mention the free, online, instructor-led classes. The online classes are based on the information you can find in the tutorials but it has that feedback that a lot of people like through having an instructor you can work with. The instructor led classes are only in Office 2007 and Office 2010. At the end of the online class, you’ll receive a certificate of completion that you may also use for Continuing Education Units. http://www.gcflearnfree.org/powerpoint2010 Please check them out and let us… Read more »
