Do you have a small service-based business? Perhaps you’re a coach, consultant, trainer, author, or speaker. Branding is as important for a small company as it is for a big one — maybe even more so.

Are your presentations branded?
Branding is more than a logo and a set of colors. It can include a company philosophy, for example. It might include a tag line, as well and a design style. But for the purpose of this post, I’m talking about a visual look that includes — but is not limited to — a logo and a set of colors.
If you’ve thought about branding at all, you’ve applied it to your website and maybe to a printed brochure. But how about to your presentations? Over and over again, I see small companies with websites, brochures, and products that look professional and have a unified look. Then I see their presentation and the branding has gone out of the window!
Why?
Your presentations represent you and your company
Whether you’re selling, training or providing a service, your slides are an essential component of who you are and what you do. To spend time and money on branding for your website and other materials, but not on your presentations is irrational.
If you’re selling — whether face to face, in a webinar, or in a video — your presentation is the last thing your audience sees before making the decision to buy — or not. Why wouldn’t it be important enough to brand?
If you’re training, your students spend a lot of time looking at your presentations. You don’t want to put your logo on every slide, but even the colors you use for text and shapes can confirm your branding — or contradict it.
If your presentation is your means of providing your service — perhaps you’re a consultant and the presentation is part of your deliverable — again, you want to use your branding.
A presentation that doesn’t consider design and branding may look unprofessional and may not represent you in the best light.
It’s easy to pick up colors from your website and apply them to a theme. Once you have your theme, you can quickly create a branded presentation.
4 reasons why branding is important to your business success
Branding can encompass more than just visual elements, but for the purposes of your presentations, there are 4 reasons why branding is invaluable. That’s because branding:
- Helps people remember you because people remember images (including colors) better than words
- Distinguishes you from your competition
- Prompts people to refer others to you because people tell others about brands they love
- Connects people with you emotionally — again because images have emotional power
