Why you present

I did a survey of my subscribers, asking them 3 questions.  I think it’s fascinating to understand the variety of reasons why you present.

I received 158 answers. I asked people to do the survey so I could know what type of content I can provide that will best help presenters.

1. Why do you present?

Here are the results of this question. Respondents could choose as many answers as applied to them, so the results add up to more than 100%. For example, “It’s part of my job” could apply to someone who trains employees as well as someone who sells a product.

Here are some of the “Other” responses:

  • Fun
  • Workshops
  • Teach, educate
  • To create graphics
  • As part of coaching
  • Create online courses

2. Why is that important to you?

I wanted to go deeper.  So the second question was, “Looking at your answer(s) to the first question, why is that important to you? (What is the deeper reason?)”

All of these answers were open; there were no checkboxes. Here are a few of the replies. Some of them are quite inspiring. My subscribers are wonderful people!

  • I really enjoy it!
  • To know that I have provided helpful knowledge to participants and assisted them in furthering their goals
  • I love the work
  • I want my slides to be attractive, balanced and designed to encourage others to take action in their lives.
  • To make a positive impact on the audience to want to do business with or invest in the company.
  • Knowledge to action approach to behavior change
  • To get my message of change for good or a transformation across to prospective clients.
  • Help others; earn extra money in retirement
  • I enjoy teaching
  • Gratification from knowing I am making a difference in the professional and possibly the personal lives of my colleagues. Helping them to be the best they can be. To take pride in themselves and learn how to be successful and truly touch the lives of those they treat.
  • To improve my skills
  • I want to help others
  • Over the years I have benefited so much from others, for me it’s payback time. How can I help someone better succeed at their job.
  • I just love PowerPoint.
  • I enjoy the interaction and the visual aspects of presentations while providing life changing information to others.
  • Love what I do; want others to enjoy it too.
  • Presenting helps me get promoted at work.
  • I want to inspire and help people develop and improve.
  • To change the world…one presentation at a time.
  • The opportunity for the first time in my life to earn a living doing something I am passionate about.
  • I am an agent of change.
  • I am driven by a deep desire to help other succeed. I want to help everyone reach their maximum potential.
  • Persuasion is a part of what I do

Feel inspired yet?

3. What do you need?

This question was a checklist and again, respondents could choose as many as they wanted.
