Attach objects exactly

If you want two objects to exactly touch each other, you may be frustrated as you try to move one exactly in place to touch the other. That’s because objects snap to an invisible grid rather than to each other.

However, you can tell PowerPoint to snap objects to other objects:

  • In PowerPoint 2000, choose Draw (on the Drawing toolbar) >Snap To Shape.
  • In PowerPoint 2002 and 2003, choose Draw (on the Drawing toolbar) > Grid and Guides. In the Grid and Guides dialog box, check the Snap Objects to Other Objects check box. Click OK.

Then drag one object to another – it snaps perfectly.

Note that you can display the grid and change its slide. (See the settings in the dialog box above.)

You can also press Alt as you drag an object to turn off snapping to the grid, but if you want to snap objects, the Snap Objects to Other Objects setting is much more accurate.
